Homebuilidng Cost continue to Rise in 2018…

Call it Inflation, call it Commodities, call it Tariffs affecting the market – but the bottom line is building & owning a new home is rising & will continue to rise in cost.  This fact was not only brought out last week at the Annual GHBA Forecasting meeting in downtown Houston, where local, state & national leaders meet with the industry leading homebuilders to speak about last year & the future to come.  They spoke about how materials have risen to record highs, all the while mixed with skilled labor still being weak & a shortfall from historical norms – have helped to create a perfect storm of more expense.

We are also continuingly hearing about it on a national scale too, “Prices for softwood lumber imports have skyrocketed 30% since Hurricane Harvey hit last summer.”  As well as “This is the highest

week-end futures price we have on record, dating back to January 1995.” said by the NAHB’s director David Logan.   ~Here is a link to this short article published by the NAHB to read & view: http://nahbnow.com/2018/01/softwood-lumber-prices-climb-to-record-highs/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=1-0205&utm_campaign=MMB2018

This affects us all as these costs are absolutes of doing business in homebuilding industry, which means builders have to not only increase prices, but remove certain items that may have been a standard feature – to keep cost affordable; which in turn affects the consumers directly in everyway.  We at Zander Homes have raised our prices a bit since Harvey affected Houston, trying to keep pace with the market adjustments.  We also want you to be aware of the current homebuilding – buying & selling climate and where it is expected to go…
